Many new businesses coming soon to Norman

Working for a newspaper means you should know everything that is going on in town, especially in the business community. When buildings go up and dirt starts to move, we should know what is going in.
I have always wanted to write a column about things that I find out at the many meetings I attend every week. Not rumors, but actual, confirmed things going on. Here goes:

• What is going in front of Academy Sports?

The structure that is going up very quickly will be World of Beer. Five and fifty-plus beers of the world ready to be shared with their customers.
The first one was in Tampa, Florida, and was built by friends who wanted to create a welcoming place where friends could gather to discover craft beer and swap stories while taking in a game or enjoying live music. Their food offerings will include shareable pub appetizers, flatbreads, burgers and more.

• Lake Hefner comes to Norman.

In the TIF district or by Legacy Park or out there by Target, as most people would say, The Hal Smith Group will open a Redrock Canyon Grill. For those of you who have not made the drive to Oklahoma City, Redrock is a combination of Southwest and American cuisine served in a casual, energetic atmosphere.

• Not everything from Austin, Texas, is weird.

It can be very delicious. Austin-based Torchy’s Tacos will open one of their six new Oklahoma locations in Norman in the TIF district (near Legacy Park). I have never eaten there, but I have it on good authority from a former Dallas resident that it will change my life.

With dishes like The Trailerpark — a taco with fried chicken, green chilies and poblanos — or the Ranchhand breakfast taco — with steak, eggs and a Diablo sauce — I am ready to be torched.

• Get your motor running; head out on the highway.

Norman’s second motorcycle dealership is now hiring. On Main Street, close to Interstate 35, in the old Prairie Kitchen location, Indian Motorcycles is hiring while they remodel the former restaurant to be a second OKC metro location.

• Can I get a Blizzard before it snows?

As reported earlier by The Transcript, Dairy Queen will be on Main Street right next to the new Zaxby’s. Now that Zaxby’s is up and running and you can get your Zalad on, dirt work has started on the Dairy Queen location. Will it be done by the new year and before the first snow? We will see.
