Construction Commences On County Jail In Norman

After Cleveland County officials spent more than a decade hoping, planning and pleading for a new jail, construction on a new 542-bed detention center is under way.Construction on the $24 million facility began after a groundbreaking ceremony in October at the jail site south of Franklin Road between 24th Avenue NW and U.S. 77. It is scheduled to take 517 days, or about one year and five months, to complete the new jail.

LWPB Architecture Earns Silver LEED Certification

The U.S. Green Building Council has awarded a Silver LEED Certification for Commercial Interiors, or LEED-CI, to LWPB Architecture for its office in Norman.This project is the first LEED certified project in Norman and also the first Silver certified project for commercial interiors in Oklahoma.

Harrison Gypsum Co. Buys Norman Warehouse For $2.05 Million

A vacant Norman warehouse was recently purchased by Harrison Gypsum Company. The building features about 48,500 square feet of warehouse space and 8,385 square feet of office space. The structure also includes a 2,950-square-foot wash bay and a 395-square-foot chemical storage building.Harrison Gypsum Co. will occupy the site.

A piece of German technology sold by a Norman pharmaceutical company has sparked the need for expansion into the city’s business park.Health Engineering Systems, founded by pharmacists Rob and Lisa Standridge, sells the Unguator, a modern-day equivalent of the mortar and pestle used by pharmacists over the centuries.

National Science Foundation Awards Grant To Oklahoma Structural Biology Group For Robotics Crystallization Equipment And Facility

The Oklahoma Structural Biology Nexus--a new statewide group of structural biologists with similar interests in this high-tech field—will establish a Robotics Crystallization Core Facility on the University of Oklahoma’s Norman campus with the National Science Foundation award of a $360,000 grant for sophisticated robotics equipment.

HealthPlex Prepares To Welcome Patients

The Norman Regional Health System HealthPlex opened its doors on Monday, Oct. 26th. The new HealthPlex has over 80 patient beds. HealthPlex physicians will treat patients in cardiovascular, neurology, orthopedics and spine and women's and children's health departments.
