Weather Decision Technologies Co-Sponsors the Dell-Winston School Solar Car Challenge
|
Weather Decision Technologies, Inc., a world leader in
weather and geo-mapping services, is providing support to high
school students building and racing their own road-worthy solar
cars at the Dell-Winston School Solar Car Challenge,
2009. This unique four-day event takes place this week at the
Texas Motor Speedway north of Fort Worth, Texas.
The 14th Dell-Winston School Solar Car Challenge is a closed-track
event that provides high school students a hands-on project-based
learning experience. Attendees, race teams and race followers
will be able to track weather conditions on a special Google-Maps
based iMap interactive radar map at
http://www.winstonsolar.org/challenge/weather2009.shtml.
Additionally, real-time streaming video of the race will be
available within the interactive iMap.
Recognized by Technology & Learning as one of the top ten
education programs in the country, the Solar Challenge's goal is to
motivate students in science, engineering, and technology. The
program teaches the importance of developing alternative
sources of energy, and helps focus community attention on
our environmental responsibility.
Car breakdowns, weather, and team experience limit the number of
laps a team can drive each day. The team driving the most laps
accumulated over the four days of racing is declared the winner.
The purpose of the Dell-Winston School Solar Car Challenge is to
provide a level playing-field for high school solar car
teams.
The Dell-Winston School Solar Car Challenge is the product of the
Winston Solar Education Program. The Winston Solar Science
Academy provides an international education program designed to
teach high school students how to build roadworthy solar
cars.
