Moore Norman Technology Center is the newest partner in the Norman Economic Development Coalition, an organization that recruits new businesses and industry to the city.

Sitel Expands

In the next three months, Sitel will hire for about 100 employee positions.Sitel has received a new line of business from their client's home lending division. Employees hired will be mortgage screening agents and supervisors.

Norman North High School and Norman High School Make NEWSWEEK Magazine’s 2009 List Of The Nation’s Top High Schools

NEWSWEEK magazine recently released the complete list of the 1,500 top high schools in the United States. Both Norman high schools were among those recognized as being in the top 6 percent of high schools in the country measure this way.  Norman North High School ranked 772 and Norman High School ranked 858 nationally.

New Norman Councilman Is Ready To Go To Work

Al Atkins became the newest member of the council when he was sworn into office in March along with re-elected council members Hal Ezzell , Rachel Butler and Doug Cubberley. Atkins moved to Norman in 2005 after retiring from American Airlines as a technical operations manager. He relocated to live near his two sons and now 4-year-old grandson, but he quickly delved into the workings of his new hometown by attending ward meetings and often expressing his opinions to Thompson.

On The Cutting Edge

University of Oklahoma researchers have created a new technology that makes it faster and cheaper to discover which microorganisms are functioning in a scientific sample.The OU GeoChip cuts down the time it takes researchers to test samples of contaminated water, decaying soil or other substance.

Norman Company SouthWest NanoTechnologies Inc. Garners $3M For Research

A local chemical company that produces carbon nanotubes has been granted $3 million from investors to continue research and development in the field.Privately held SouthWest NanoTechnologies Inc. will receive the financing through a payment schedule this year from Troy, Mich.-based growth capital fund Insight Technology Capital Partners LP.

The Norman Economic Development Coalition Works With Norman High School To WorkKeys Certify Seniors

The Norman Economic Development Coalition (NEDC) conducted WorkKeys Assessments in February for the senior class at Norman High School (NHS). This pilot program at NHS showed remarkably well scores over all and especially strong in Reading for Information and Locating Information.WorkKeys is a job skills assessment system measuring “real world” skills that employers believe are critical to job success.  The assessment informs the individual what areas they have outstanding skills in and what areas they could improve upon.

The Healthplex Has A New Approach

Norman Regional Health System's HealthPlex, situated on the west side of Interstate 35 at the Tecumseh Road Exit, has scheduled a grand opening for Aug. 29. Patients won't move in until late September. The HealthPlex Campus is taking approaches from the book "If Disney Ran Your Hospital: 9 1/2 Things You Would Do Differently" by Fred Lee when deciding how to design and run Norman Regional Health System's HealthPlex.

Weather Decision Technologies Co-Sponsors the Dell-Winston School Solar Car Challenge

Weather Decision Technologies, Inc., a world leader in weather and geo-mapping services, is providing support to high school students building and racing their own road-worthy solar cars at the Dell-Winston School Solar Car Challenge, 2009. The 14th Dell-Winston School Solar Car Challenge is a closed-track event that provides high school students a hands-on project-based learning experience.

Oklahoma Engineer Among 100 To Receive Presidential Award

Amy Ceratos, assistant professor in the School of Civil Engineering and Environmental Science at the University of Oklahoma, is among 100 researchers nationwide selected by President Obama to receive the Presidential Early Career Award. The award is for Scientist and Engineers with the highest honor presented by the U.S. government to outstanding scientist and engineers starting their independent careers.

MNTC Staff Earn National Awards From PR Group

The Marketing Communications department of Moore Norman Technology Center recently earned top honors through the National School Public Relations Association. The competition entries represent public, private and a few technical schools from across the United States. This year the NSPRA publications contest had 955 entries for paper publications, with only 168 that earned Awards of Excellence and 226 Awards of Honorable Mention.

Two new restaurants are coming to Campus Corner this fall. Chipotle will be located in the former Boomer Theatre on Asp Ave. and Iron Starr will be located at the former site of Harold's outlet.
