Celebration of Innovation

Thirty-six entities representing various industries including education, health care, aerospace and environmental, just to name a few, will receive special recognition at The Journal Record's annual celebration of business innovation set for March 13 in downtown Oklahoma City.

A Creativity Award, added to the program last year, will also be presented.
This years recipient of the Creativity Award will be Oklahoma A+ Schools for its network of 45 public and private schools committed to changing school environments around creative thinking and innovation.
W. Arthur Skip Porter, the founding director of the Center for the Creation of Economic Wealth at the University of Oklahoma and winner of the overall 2007 Journal Record Innovator of the Year, will deliver the keynote speech at this years event.
Porter lives in Austin, Texas, and works with Emergent Technologies Inc. He also is regents professor emeritus of engineering for OU and chairman of the board of SouthWest NanoTechnologies Inc.
He has been instrumental in helping the Norman university spin off more than 30 startup companies that have generated nearly $12 million in revenue.
The Journal Records Innovator of the Year program has been honoring Oklahoma ingenuity for eleven years. This program allows us to recognize businesses, organizations and individuals who embrace the entrepreneurial spirit that makes Oklahoma such a special place to live and work, said Mary Mélon, publisher of The Journal Record. Our honorees over the years have developed products and services that have grown our communities and put us on the map both nationally and internationally.
Adding the Creativity Award last year has given the program another dimension and brings much-deserved focus on The Creativity Project, which is a progressive program designed to capture and promote creativity in Oklahoma.
An overall winner will be announced from the 36 innovators at the banquet. These innovators, along with the winners of On the Brink awards and the Creativity Award honoree, will be profiled in the Innovator of the Year magazine to be published March 14.
Sponsors of the 2008 Journal Record Innovator of the Year Awards are Coppermark Bank, Crowe & Dunlevy, Ernst & Young, Oklahoma Center for the Advancement of Science & Technology, i2E, Ballyhoo and The State Chamber.
Tickets for the banquet are $100. Corporate tables are available for $2,000 and include a table for 10, advertising, preferred seating and recognition. Tables for 10 are $1,000.
