Downtown building gets a new life

The Magnolia Building, located at 132 W. Main St., has been renovated as a model for urban living. Brent Swift is the construction company owner who turned the 2nd floor of the building in to four apartment units.

OU breaks ground on $8.4 million indoor tennis facility

The University of Oklahoma recently broke ground at the site of a planned $8.4 million indoor tennis facility intended to provide better practice opportunities and perhaps bring more collegiate tournaments to campus.

Moore Norman Technology Center is one of four organizations that have earned a 2007 Oklahoma Quality Award. The school was named the winner of the Oklahoma Quality award for achievement.

Mayes named Norman Business Legend

The Norman Business Association recently honored Hoyt P. "Pat" Mayes as its latest Norman Business Legend winner. Mayes serves as a chairman of the board of First American Bank and has been involved in the community for many years.

Healthplex construction moving along

Construction on the Norman Regional Hospital Healthplex is progressing well enough hospital officials hope to have it open in the spring of 2009. A $129 million, 400,000-square-foot hospital will be the centerpiece of the 95-acre Healthplex campus. The hospital will have eight operating rooms and 151 beds within its five-story orthopedics/cardiology tower and three-story women's and children's unit.

Norman schools' test scores rising

Norman Public School’s test scores are on the rising for 2007. This year, McKinley Elementary School was the first school in the district to score a perfect 1500 on the Academic Performance Index.

Ruby Grant Park master plan approved by Parks Board

The Ruby Grant Park master plan was approved by the Norman Parks Board commissioners. If the city council approves the master plan, the 148-acre park will be done in three phases.

Mr. John Q. Hammons Celebrates Topping-Off Ceremony for Embassy Suites and Convention Center

At a recent topping-off ceremony, John Q. Hammons representatives and Flintco Constructive Solutions joined officials from the city of Norman to watch as an evergreen tree was placed on top of the construction site to celebrate the completion of the highest structural point of Mr. John Q. Hammons’ new 10-story, 283-suite Embassy Suites, a Norman Hotel and Convention Center.
