Norman Regional Health System wins quality improvement award

The Norman Transcript

Norman Regional Health System was presented recently with a 2006 Quality Award by the Oklahoma Foundation for Medical Quality.

The award is based on data submitted to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services during 2006. Norman Regional was recognized as the most improved hospital for clinical outcomes in the large hospital category.

With baseline 2005 data provided by CMS for patients diagnosed with pneumonia, heart failure and heart attack, OFMQ compared the 2006 CMS data and was able to identify the hospital with the greatest reduction in failure rate.

Jason Fogg, NRHS director of performance improvement, said the award is a reflection of the entire hospital staff.

“This award demonstrates our commitment to healthcare excellence. We receive outstanding support from our frontline staff, physicians, executive team and board. Through the Health Care System’s implementation of our best practices, we are having a significant positive impact on the quality of care we deliver. … It takes everyone working together to reach these levels of performance.”

David Whitaker, president and CEO of Norman Regional said it was an honor to be recognized by OFMQ for the hospital’s continued efforts to achieve excellence.
Norman Regional Health System also recently received awards from VHA Inc., a national health care alliance, for its ongoing quality programs for patients with pneumonia, heart attack, congestive heart failure and blood stream infections.

More than 312 hospitals applied for the VHA Leadership Awards. Norman Regional was the only VHA hospital in the state to receive recognition in four quality categories.
