The Oklahoma Wind Power Initiative recently won a national award from the United States Department of Energy.

Scott Greene, director of the University of Oklahoma’s Environmental Verification and Analysis Center and an associate professor in the department of geography, heads the initiative.

State Rep. James Covey, D-Custer City, accepted the award on behalf of the initiative at the American Wind Energy Association meeting June 4-6 in Los Angeles. Rep. Covey worked with OWPI closely, and he holds the presidency for the Oklahoma Renewable Energy Council.

Wind Powering America, a Department of Energy Initiative, presented the award. The award recognizes the OWPI as the outstanding state wind working group in the country and highlighted its continued leadership in outreach to Oklahoma wind stakeholders.
