J.R's Family Bar-B-Q opens Norman location

World Wrestling Entertainment announcer and hall of famer Jim "J.R." Ross opened Norman's newest barbecue restaurant. J.R's Family Bar-B-Q is located at 353 Interstate Drive, in front of the Wal-Mart shopping center. The restaurant will seat approximately 130 people. Hours are 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week.

Second Chance Animal Sanctuary and East Main Place are two local nonprofit organizations that were awarded a grant by the Sarkeys Foundation.

Oklahoma Wind Power wins national award

The Oklahoma Wind Power Initiative recently won a national award from the United States Department of Energy. The award recognizes the OWPI as the outstanding state wind working group in the country and highlighted its continued leadership in Oklahoma wind stakeholders.

Rosenthal, councilmembers sworn in

Norman's new Mayor, Cindy Rosenthal and five councilmembers were given the oath of office on Tuesday, July 3rd. Rosenthal is Norman's second female mayor and Norman's first popularly elected women mayor. Norman's two new council members are Hal Ezzell and Carol Dillingham.

Moore Norman Technology Center has a new program for digital video production. Chris Kalinski was hired to lead the program that is expected to start this fall.

Norman Regional Health System wins quality improvement award

Norman Regional Health System was presented recently with a 2006 Quality Award by the Oklahoma Foundation for Medical Quality.
The award is based on data submitted to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services during 2006. Norman Regional was recognized as the most improved hospital for clinical outcomes in the large hospital category.

OU lands $132 million contract with FAA

The University of Oklahoma was awarded a $132 million contract to provide training to federal air traffic controllers, the largest contract in the university's history.
The Federal Aviation Administration Air Traffic Instructional Support services contract with OU Outreach provides for a base and four one-year options totaling $132 million.
