Instead of driving to Lawton, members of the Comanche Tribe within the Oklahoma City metro area can now receive services in Norman.

The Comanche Nation Norman Outreach Center, 1161 Sonoma Park, Suite 400, had its grand opening Jan. 23. The center serves as a satellite office.

“Lawton is where the tribal headquarters is,” Sarah Morris, director of the center said. “There are a lot of Comanches on the Comanche roll that live outside of Lawton … it’s a more convenient location.”

The outreach center is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday, and will be able to provide some of the same services that are offered at the Comanche Nation Complex in Lawton.

Tribal members can pick up applications for home improvement; higher education; social services, such as, emergency and bereavement assistance; student services for grades k-12; and diabetes management and prevention.

Morris said the center also hopes to implement wellness classes like yoga, cultural arts and crafts activities and Comanche language classes. The center also will hold a monthly informational on all of its services.

One of the center’s first activities will be an informal Q&A session on diabetes, 6-7:30 p.m., Feb. 27.

The Norman location also can provide materials for tribal enrollment.
“We invite any and all Comanches in the area to stop by and take advantage of the services the center has to offer,” Morris said.
