Cities gain in July sales taxes

July municipal sales tax receipts recently returned to area cities and towns generally were ahead of taxes collected in July of last year.

A report from the Oklahoma Tax Commission indicates Norman received $3,823,123 for its 3-cent sales tax and 0.5 percent sewer tax, up about 3 percent from the tax disbursement for July of last year.

For other cities with 3-cent taxes: Blanchard received $94,285, down from $119,411 in July of last year, when the tax rate was 4 cents. Moore received $1,268,203, up from $1,099,076. Shawnee had tax receipts of $1,209,606, up from $1,106,567. Tecumseh received $58,485, up from $54,191.

Of municipalities with 3.5-cent sales taxes, Del City received $688,806, an increase of more than 77 percent over taxes for the previous July. Lexington received $28,395, up from $19,922.

Midwest City, with a 3.3-cent tax, received $1,684,663, down from the previous July's $1,722,705.

Oklahoma City, with a 3,875-cent tax rate, collected more than $27.3 million for July, up from $25.5 million at the same time last year.

Among cities with 4-cent tax rates, Newcastle received $335,107, up from July of last year's $276,959. Chickasha received $692,062, up from $603,231 for the previous July, when the tax rate was 3.75 cents. Noble received $102,689, down from the previous July's $117,905. Purcell received $284,989, up from the previous July's $188,739, when the rate was 3.5 cents.

Among towns with 2-cent sales taxes, Goldsby took in $31,832, up from $25,627; Slaughterville, $7,094, up from $6,607, and Washington, $3,450, down from $4,344.
